Memory-Map's powerful software and Hema's maps located on your computer
or pocket
pc select the appropriate map for the trip you are planning. Mark out
out the trip by simply clicking along the route. Double click at the
end and you are done. By moving the cursor along the route it will show
you the distance between legs, the ascent and decent of that leg and
the longitude and latitude for any point along the way.
You can then click on the 3D button to view the route on the map in 3D format which is great for seeing the terrain you will be traveling over, especially if you are hicking, cycling or on horseback. All the contour lines are shown. You can extend the view further out, bring it closer, even turn it around. You can even see the terrain as a satellite view. If you want to make notes on the map just click on the text button and enter the text you would like to note down. Even add photos of favourite places or landmarks. Print MapsAt any time that you wish you can print your own full colour maps with your routes and notes marked on the map as you did in step one. Print it as a flat map, or showing the 3D terrain, or both. Programming Your GPSCompatable with most Garmin, Magellan and Navman GPS units, Memory-Map allows you to download the waypoints virtually by clicking a button. This can be done via a computer or Pocket PC. Live
in the VehicleIf you want to have the mapping system live on your notebook as you drive, particularly in some of Australia's harsher and more remote regions, see your position real time on the moving display map right in front of you with the display pointer. Project your current course. See distances to the next waypoint. Enter speed being traveled and see how long it will take to the next waypoint and much much more. There are several options from mounting the PC on a purpose built, impact resistant, mount in the front of the vehicle, available from around $250.00, with the PC connected to a weatherproof GPS receiver at $89.00, available from us, which is magnetic and waterproof and can be placed inside the vehicle or outside. If you don't want the notebook taking up space in the front of your vehicle it can be mounted elsewhere out of the way and you just have a small screen mounted in the cockpit, from about the size of a portable DVD player to whatever size you want. Prices range from the low $200's upwards. Setting the system up this way give you a whole new world of GPS posibilities right at your fingertips. There is more information and illustrations on vehicle mounts below. Performance
ReviewIf you are not using the system mounted in a vehicle as above you can still import the tracks you have taken back into the PC from the GPS unit once the trip is over. Record exactly where you have been your speeds and distances covered. Then add your text notes, photo images and even sound clips. Mounting Notebook in VehicleThe vehicle mount that we recommend is the impact resistant tripod mount from Ram-Mount. The mount comes complete with 3 alloy legs that are easily shaped and cut off to length to suit your vehicle's mounting requirements. Typically two of the legs attach to the front of the seat slides on the passenger seat and the third is attached to a convenient point on the firewall. There is normally no drilling required and you end up with a sturdy, purpose built mount for your notebook. There is an optional flexable screen brace that simply attatches to the rear of the mount and holds the screen of the notebook in a firm position. These mounts can be used in any vehicle providing they are fitted within the guidelines of the various state motoring authorites. Basically the mounted notebook must not interfere with, or hide access to, the instruments and controls of the vehicle. The seat must be free to slide and, in the event of an airbag inflation, the mount must not be in its path. When not in use the mount can be easily removed from the trip. If you change vehicles and need different lenghts for the tripod mounts these can be purchased individually.
