How OziExplorer works
and what it can
do for you
OziExplorer
is an Australian software package that you install on your computer or
notebook. Once installed the features packed into OziExplorer
gives the the ability for powerful 4wd trip planning.
With a
GPS receiver conected to your notebook, it also gives you also gives
you a very capable GPS system in your vehicle with moving map displays
and screen tracking of GPS position.
OziExplorer will work with most raster map file formats including OZF2,
ECW, MrSid and several others. All digital maps sold on this site will
work with OziExplorer except Memory-Map. You can also scan your own
maps, although
functionality may be limited by doing it yourself.
Planning
OziExplorer lets you plan your trip in the comform of your home,
ploting track routes and creating waypoints as well as being able to
add special features, symbols and comments to your map. Whilst you can
then load the waypoints and routes onto most GPS's you cannot load the
actual maps onto the GPS. The only software that can do this is
software is supplied by the GPS manufacturer.
Tracking
With your notebook running in your vehicle and a GPS receiver connected
you have real-time GPS tracking taking place on your notebook. Use
these navigation features to help you travel between pre-planned
waypoints and routes. If you do get lost simply back-track along the
route you have just travelled.
Various information is displayed whilst you are travelling such as
speed, course, next waypoint, distance and more.
Saving
Trip Information from a GPS
Once your trip has finished you can download route and waypoint
information from your GPS to OziExplorer to view on a map or for future
use.
